Roberto Cavalli is one of the most successful Italian designers of the end of XX century. He was born in 1940 in Florence, Italy. Cavalli enrolled at the local Art Institute were he majored in Textile Print. In his student years he created a series of flower prints on knit which attract the attention of
Italian hosiery factories.
In 1970s he invented and patented a new way of printing on leather. He presented his techniques in Paris and immediately gained a success. Then designer started to work with such a well-known fashion houses like Hermes and Pierre Cardin. At the age of 30 years, he presented the first collection under his own name. Roberto Cavalli opened his first butique (store) in Saint-Tropez in 1972. His very first creations ( as well as today’s) were focused on people loving luxury and able to afford it, that’s why the first store of the fashion house was opened in a resort area for wealthy people.
Besides the main production line, comprising meanswear and womenswear, and sold in over fifty countries worldwide, Roberto Cavalli designs RC Menswear as well as the youth aimed line Just Cavalli. Just Cavalli was launched in 1998. Now it comprises menswear, womenswear, accessories, eyewear, watches, perfumes, underwear, and beachwear. There are also Angels & Devils Children Collection, Class line, two underwear collections, shoes, eyewear, watches and fragrances.

Roberto Cavalli is named “the master of the ruffle and the very sexy dress” by the UK Vogue magazine. Cavalli’s “visiting card” are leopard print and a plunging neckline.
In 2007 Roberto Cavalli company turnover was nearly €700 million($952). The biggest part of the fashion house sales is done by exporting luxury products in the USA.
