Prada is an Italian fashion house founded in 1913 by Mario Prada. At the beginning the company was engaged in selling leather goods. The shop sold leather goods imported from England. Ironically, Mario Prada thought that women should not take part in family business, however, the two following generations of the company inheritors were his daughter Luisa Prada and granddaughter Miuccia Prada, who made the company on of the most well-known and successful Italian fashion house.
After taking up the reins of Prada company, Miuccia Prada began to change the way people viewed fashion. She started with her revolutionary nylon bags. These handbags were something unheard for the world of luxury goods. If now such tote bags are a must-have for every women, then, in 1979 they were received by the public without any enthusiasm.
However, with the support of her friend, who later became her husband, Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia Prada continued to create new womenswear and bags collections. These struggling wasn’t pointless. After making a successful marketing campaign, aimed to get the brand in the public eye, through spreading Prada products in upscale department stores and boutiques worldwide, the brand became popular. Now it is recognized for its edgy and at the same time rigorous style. Press described the style of the brand as “unassertive, combining traditional good manners and an ultramodern industrial sleekness,” and “sexy and spoke of confidence without revealing too much skin.” Prada creates luxury clothing and accessories for modern feminine business ladies, who manage to combine the female nature with talented business ruining.
In 1992 Prada created a new subsidiary brand called after Miuccia’s nickname Miu Miu. Miu Miu brand is mainly focused on the younger consumers. As well, Miuccia Prada, with the help of her husband, designs menswear and accessories.
